All In A Single Day

Her world was shattered.
It would never be the same.
Everything had changed.
She couldn’t go back.
She would if she could.
It takes two people.
She tried.
He gave up.
A lonely start.
A new semester.
The second day of school.
Could it have been different?
It didn’t matter.
It was far too late.
She walked away from him.
Couldn’t still be even friends.
She mended her broken heart.
Moved on.
A new world.
New possibilities.
Everything had changed.
All in a single day.

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem while in class the day after my first boyfriend broke up with me. We had dated for four months and he broke up with me on the second day of the new semester, so it was a pretty harsh blow. But it has been a long time since then, so it doesn't hurt anymore.
