Hope is a dreadful thing.
It grazes you
Like a ripple on the surface of the water
Or a bullet’s smooth brush against your neck.
It teases, then chokes
In sick repetitive motions
Until the dread creeps back in
And your thickened reality produces tears,
That finally lull you to sleep.
