Behind the make-up and the fancy clothes
“It’s my cover.”
She says “I thought you knew.”
How was I to know?
What I was never told
She started when she could
I never began
Tell me why I should
She did it to fit in, get guys, and be accepted
I, with purple hair and not enough flair,
A simple girl in jeans and t’s
Got more admirers than I can see
A guy a sweet as can be,
Closer friends than ever before
I wore it for a week,
Nothing changed
She enthused
I stop, not understanding
What the fuss was about
Why bother with make-up
I love who I am
I am me
That’s my cover
