Purple
Purple.
Royal purple.
A color hard to find, but for
The bitter juice of crushed fruit,
The smallest little flower.
Despair is black,
Envy green,
Sorrow blue.
No one thinks of purple.
Purple.
Flowing silk,
It shimmers,
Shifts,
Silent.
Purple.
A mystery,
It deepens,
Darkens,
Danger.
Purple.
Poison purple
Taints yellow’s cheerful cup,
And someday lover’s red and angel’s white will
Fall.
Purple.
Royal Purple,
And few open their eyes,
Blinded by elegance, by beauty.
I am purple,
And no one sees the danger
I’ve become.
