"The only thing I would change about you is your last name"

Beauty
What I want to see
in the mirror
what I stride for
would die for

That's why it's
upsetting
I stare in the mirror
but
beauty
is not there

You may not think
I'm
Beautiful
or
Gorgeous
but I got it
on the inside
you cant ignore it

Beauty
is a word
all should
feel
Its on the inside
where its
real

Beauty
a flower
we all grasp
we pluck off
the petals littering
the ground with
our insecurities
we toss away
good
bad
we don't care
we don't see

We don't see
Beauty
we don't hear its voice
it shouts
from withing screaming
"I'm Here! I'm Here!"
but we are busy
battling
our fear

We perfect
the art of looking
"Beautiful"
painting our face with
pastel pains
lovely lies
corrupt colors
thinking
Beauty
is what we
feel

We think to
starve
ourselves is
perfection
so we kill
ourselves for
direction
then we are
stuck
on a road heading
towards a place
we don't want to
go
still we don't stop the car
don't slam the
breaks
we keep pumping the
gas
hoping we have
what it takes

We say
Beauty
is inside
but
I'm starting to doubt
maybe
Beauty
is out

But
we shouldn't doubt
we shouldn't give in
to lies
we generate ourselves

Is this what
you
want your
daughter
to see?
All this
insecurity?

We are setting the
foundation
for future
generations
that will
crumble
under their feet as they
stumble
towards understanding

Why stare?
Why compare?

Beauty
is a word
but it does not
act alone
It has paired with
your greatest fear
to make you cry
tear after tear

Yet I still
believe
if we
dig a little deeper
we just might find
Beauty
is there
it was just in
disguise

I wrote this about the insecurities we all have with our bodies and ourselves but that, in the end, beauty was always there.

“Sure, I can talk like you, but I choose not to, It's like an art, you know? Picasso had to prove to the world he could paint the right way, before he goes putting both eyes on the side of a face... See if you paint wrong because that's the best you can do, you just a chump. But you do it because you want to? Then you're an artist...You can take that to the grave and dig it up when you need it.”
― Neal Shusterman, Unwind

I love it. It is very strong and it packs a punch
