Nothing starts with your eyes on it.
A cigarette trailing smoke like a body bleeding out,
ethanol kisses and fault-lines through words.

Nobody gets story arcs,
or a moment when you think,
That. That’s what’s going to end it all.
So no clever foreshadow, no underlying message.
We all just fold our hands at some point,
and leave the table.


The author's comments:
I keep a running list of little phrases I think up (yeah, yeah, I've heard all of the 'The Waves' jokes before, keep walking), and I noticed these, and I thought, "Hey, these make a semi-decent poem." So, if you find these in some other story of mine in the future, you saw it here first.
