Once Had
That summer she will never forget,
Met her true love.
Warm sun shone on his golden hair,
Blue eyes so full of hope,
Memories from the lake.
Meeting for the first time.
To that last day,
A car moving too fast.
Didn’t see that stop sign.
Coming home from the high school football game,
things were about to change.
Nothing could be compared,
To the tears that she shed.
Dreams of a life with him,
No longer a part of the future,
She feels lost and alone,
That was fifteen years ago,
She’s now married and divorced,
His picture under her nightstand.
She’ll never forget,
That summer of love.
