My Last Day In The School District
“DING, DING!!!”
The bell screams,
shuffling feet.
Must make class on time.
We sit like statues,
listening to the teacher,
name after name.
“Mary Louis,”
“Jeremy Hewitt,”
my name next.
My hand shoots up like a flare - present.
“And this is the record that God hath given us, eternal life,
and his Son has this life,” Mr. Lord preached proudly.
Each student repeated –
one after another.
The clock leapt, I spoke last.
I stood
And said,
“God may be your savior,
but not mine - atheism for me.”
My last day in the school district.
