I will miss this skin,
This smile, and these knees.
I will miss the smell
Of my mother, of the trees.
I will miss the crackling furnace,
The sounds in the night.
I will miss these words,
This long, tearful fight.
I will miss the eggs,
The cheese, the milk.
I will miss running my fingers
Through your long, quiet silk.
These things pass me by
Before I can understand,
The significance and wonder
Of just holding one’s hand.
A kiss on the forehead,
An embrace, a touch,
A squeeze goodbye,
These things mean so much.
Now is gone in a moment,
Tomorrow comes too fast,
Yesterday is only a memory,
Seems like nothing can last.
But there is something out there,
Something wild and great,
Something is eternal,
To find it is our fate.
