Rosebud
Rosebud, Rosebud
I’m not good enough
For half a girl,
I’m not pretty enough
For even an empty plastic shell;
No one cares about what’s inside –
Maybe if they did,
I’d actually stand a chance
The others are so beautiful
Bright and prim
Athletic
Intelligent
Loved
Given time
Nurtured
Like a rosebud;
I am just
The rudimentary blossom
In the midst of withering
Giving way to harsh times
Because where has persistence gotten me?
I am a dying blossom
In a field of worthy rosebuds
Water cannot save
My brittle stem,
No amount of sunshine
Can incense my fragile petals again…
I am no
Rosebud
