I try to sleep,
I try to block out the screaming downstairs.
I try to cancel all my thoughts.
I try to focus on the clock.

Tick.
Tock.
Tick.
Tock.

I try to start a dream,
one of happiness and peace.
I try, but once again I fail.

I try to take some pills,
“Maybe they will help,” I think.
Wrong.

I try to scream out
“BE QUIET”
I try, but once again I fail.

They holler downstairs,
Blaming each other,
Throwing things in all directions.

I try to think of a night before this was a pattern.
But once again I fail.
