It was every story, in all of our books
The sound of silence and the hook
on the line
I captured you, fierce and
You left me to sit,
Wondering why you ran away so fast.
And why nothing I could ever love
Would stay with me
And last.

I ran through halls and passages,
I ran through June and May
I ran through my head,
Replaying your hands
Replaying things
I wish would stay.

I can't believe you are already a memory.

My eyes replenish what they've lost
In the walls of cities
In the windows that never open.

I wish I lived in the countryside, forever
soft and green
Forever in the wind
Swaying in the breeze.

I wish you were a river
I wish the stars were black
I wish I were a sailboat
And even in temptation
never
would I look back.
