Big Brother

Big Brother
When I think of you
I think of all the things I did with you
From rain puddle duck hunts
To crazy bike stunts
Dusty, thrilling wild horse chases
Building snow forts and military bases
Climbing the trees we weren't supposed to climb
And never coming back to our schoolwork on time

Big Brother
When I think of you
I remember all the things I learned from you
Red Radio Flyers can really fly
You should never quit before you try
Use a shotgun to hunt the birds
Never say certain words
Don't hug trees
Or eat their leaves
And never try to catch bumblebees

Big Brother
When I think of you
I remember all the things I was told by you
Eels lived in small-town ponds
The cutest girls were always the blondes
Ants taste best when ate with chips
It's okay to steal the waiter's tips
Cougars like to eat little girls
And the prettiest hair is filled with curls

Big Brother
When I think of you
I remember all the things I was shown by you
The best place to hunt for birds
Which of the animals traveled in herds
The biggest mud puddles
How to use confusing belt buckles
Where the best blackberries grow
Which are ravens and which are crows

Big Brother
When I think of you
I remember all the things I was given by you
Pillow Pets and a B.B. Gun
Plus years and years of endless fun
Little puppy dogs and Camo T-shirts
Endless advice like "never wear a skirt"
Fights and quarrels on old round rugs
And precious unforgettable bedtime hugs

Big Brother
Looking back on all these memories
I remember all the things you gave up for me
Your jacket on a cold, dark winter night
When my hands shivered and shook with fright
Your table of friends to instead sit by me
In a lonely lunchroom so large and scary
Your well-earned pride to help a little sister in need
To pick me up and put me back on my feet

Big Brother
Without you, where would I be?
Besides scared, cold and lonely?
Big Brother what did I ever do for you
In exchange for all the dragons you slew?
Big Brother, now all I can do
Is write you this poem as a simple "thank you"

Yes, I have mixed emotions for my big bro. If youve read my poem "Who I'll Always Be" then you understand this.
