unfocused, unseeing
dead to the world around
the world that killed it

the dull, dark eyes
a hidden pathway
to broken dreams,
a shattered heart

deep inside,
behind the uninterested eyes
lie tears unsurfaced
stories long gone untold

abandoned is the light
that once sparked in those eyes
vanished is the smile
on the now expressionless face

uncaring of glorious tales
of good fortune befallen all
but the dark eyed broken one
hurt beyond pain,

though one could never tell
the broken soul cannot swim
it drowns in an overbearing sea
drowning, in a sea of grief
