Fog trails low
As the sun climbs high,
This is no game show.
We watch the cranes fly.
Down comes the gentle snow,
You smile sweetly behind your bow tie.
Beginning to freeze from head to toe
But frost drips away with your warm sigh.
Lake reflecting daylight’s glow,
I dread the coming goodbye.
We both know.
Branches rustle nearby
Almost seeming to know.
My heart won’t comply,
Tears escape with overflow.
Angry screams of why
Crush you with their blow.
We went awry,
Now I must let go.
River of love, bone dry.
Dusty shadows of long ago.
My heart was right to be shy.
