This painting holds a mystery
with only witness, one,
a silent soul with wooden eyes,
whose purpose is now done.
As impending storm approaches,
the ocean holds its breath,
while the old oar's rippling tear,
marks the unknown death.
Stifling air that presses down
upon the waters deep,
lightning flashes from the West,
as the clouds begin to weep.
Who can say what happened here
when no one know the tale.
For all that's left in this sad scene,
is a faithful boat without a sail.

I wrote this poem for my American Literature class and it was inspired by David Jay Spyker's picture "The Asylum (The Refugee). I hope that you like it and any feed back is greatly appreciated.
