United States of Afghanistan

Uniformed men
march down these streets,
littered with garbage
and bones.
they walk up and down
searching for what they
should be saving.
Women crying
children dying
calling out for mommy
but she can’t come because
she is dead,
like the rest of us.
And elderly man
tries to run across the street,
tries to flee from the injustice,
but it catches him.

Bombs,
Like birds flying south,
swooping down,
gripping terrified worms
in their talons
before devouring them.
White
powdered rain
burning hopes and
dreams the pain will end,
but it won’t because
“All is fair in love and war”
All
Is
Fair
In
Death.
