My Winter Song to You
I'd like to hear a song from my own mouth
I'd like to hear some beautiful sounds
I'd like to know that my own words
Caught a person on the street who heard
I'd like to say my poem in the open air
Be able to say that now I've gotten there
I'm recognized for my genius
I'm someone now, believe it
But it doesn't always work like that
If all I really wanted
Was to write a winter song
Sing about the chill of the air
How the wind is blowing strong
Shattering the icicles
Snow falling on the ground
Everything covered in sparkle
Looking like a fairy's playground
Wouldn't that be something
I'd do it for the words themselves
Not for my own pleasure
Or to see my books on store shelves
Wouldn't it be lovely
If words still meant the same
Spoken in a lovely way
Not for my own gain
Suppose I wrote a winter song for you
I wrote about the way you're eyes shine
When you dance in the snowflakes
And it makes me smile
I sang a song for you as you slept
A lullaby for those cold winter nights
Just for you and no one else I whispered softly
And my words stayed glowing like candlelight
If all I really wanted
Was to write a winter song
Sing about the chill of the air
How the wind is blowing strong
Shattering the icicles
Snow falling on the ground
Everything covered in sparkle
Looking like a fairy's playground
Wouldn't that be something
I'd do it for the words themselves
Not for my own pleasure
Or to see my books on store shelves
Wouldn't it be lovely
If words still meant the same
Spoken in a lovely way
Not for my own gain
I decided to write you a winter song
Just for you and only you listen closely
A whisper on the wind
That's all it is
A lullaby for when I say goodbye
I'll send you my winter song
My words carried on winter chill
Next time I'll remember what it's all about
And send you breezes of my singing
What you want and what you will
Wait for my winter song to you
