The alarm stirred.
Buzz, buzz, buzz.
My eyes opened
As a haze of exhaustion enveloped me
Like a smoldering blanket.
My body sunk into the comfort of my covers.
Birds chirped in the cedar outside
And sunlight streamed in through the windowpane.
I sensed the clamor of dishes downstairs
And heard pancakes sizzling on the griddle
As maple syrup’s aroma wafted upstairs.
Slowly but surely, my brain navigated out of the fog,
My senses awakening from their slumber.
It was the start of a new day.
