To be, or not to be?

I never wanted to be this way. I was asked and masked by the addicting sway. This is not the way I wanted to pay but the benefits said okay. It all started a year ago today. I was led off my work when I wanted to stay. But the benefit made me obey. It was like addicting cocaine, and I had to drink the beverage to sooth the pain. Mainly because it was like my dragon's bane. I lit the small flame to cover up my bloody stains. Not to play into the benefit's bloody game. I needed to maintain and not be be tamed by the benefits ways. I was called names and short and plain, but this for my own gain. I used to be saint before all the benefits came. Soon then came the flame and burning through the grassy blades. Benefits or I? This for you to blame. For I was the one who was sourly slain, who tickles your soul and whips with cane. Tapered and tainted who is the main?
