Light Reveals Everything Dark
As I lie among the grasses
a full moon rises, glowing
with a harsh light, illuminating
every blade next to my head,
every tree, and the entire field around me.

The myriad of reflected light plays with my vision,
picking at hidden emotions and thoughts.
As a floodgate opens somewhere,
I am swept away by the torrents of agony,
guilt, hate, and loneliness, all coaxed into existence
from the depths within my sea of emotions.

I despair as the depression once again takes hold,
digging its bitter claws into my heart,
ignoring my futile attempts for peace of mind.
No painful memory is able to hide,
no content feelings can surface,
Forcing my conflict to drag for eternity.

Slowly, ever so slowly, the chilling bite
of the revealing light recedes, replaced instead
by the warmth of day.
Yet despite the heat, I can still feel cold fingers,
curled around my sanity, refusing to relinquish their hold.
And so I struggle, gradually drowning in the internal
turmoil of my sorrow.

The author's comments:
I bottled my emotions from a very young age until my depression grew worse and I turned to self medicating to help myself. This is about the night where I stopped bottling everything.

Again, your feelings are communicated well through this poem, like "Highbeams". These lines were particularly powerful: "I despair as the depression once again takes hold, digging its bitter claws into my heart, ignoring my futile attempts for peace of mind." ...great job.
