What does one write
For the future reader to read?
What I am occupying myself with now doesn’t matter to you
By the time you read this, I will be miles away
On a plane
Or a boat
With only my past reflection to give you comfort

Why does one smile
If it’s only to fade?
It is only a flicker, a trick of the eye
By the time you look, I maintain a neutral pose
On a boat
Or a plane
With only my past reflection to give you comfort

Why does one wonder
If our thoughts are forgotten?
What I have thought in the past I will be unable to tell you
By the time you care, your torture begins
On a boat
Or a plane
With only my past reflection to give you comfort
