Girls of Spring
My sneakers turn to cleats
and hoops turn to bases
my shorts go to sliding pants
and my sleeveless jersey turns to a long sleeve uniform.
Whether I’m slamming a homer,
rounding first,
or stealing home
the rush I feel is the same.
The game itself is intoxicating.
When I’m up to bat nothing else matters except getting on base,
when the pitchers goal is to strike me out
I have to stay focused.
From the cool spring breeze on the first practice
to the blazing sun on the last
our team sticks together
through wins
and loses.
we aren’t just a group of girls that play a sport together,
we are a family that plays softball.
