Drowning

I am wandering alone on this barren landscape.
The landscape of my runaway mind.
These words are a jumble swirling in my brain.
My numbed fingers brush my face and I am broken
into a smile.

I am suffocating on the still-life memories
of you that I have jailed in my head.
The impermanent photographs.
I am drowning.

I am drowning again, this time, please
Don't pull me back above the surface for a gasp of
This stale air.
I can't bear to keep swimming
These still pools of my mind.
