My mind is a river, you cross it often
Some days you just stand on the shore
Just above the tide line observing the life abundant there
Other days you walk on the sand
It continues into the darkest corners of me
You do not venture there
Occasionally you will wade into my thoughts
Cuff up your jeans and let the water kiss your tired ankles
You smile at this pitiful embrace
Periodically you swim
Treating my mind as a pool you do laps
Up and down, up and down
But still not too deep in my thoughts
Just at the surface
Like when you take a rowboat out
And cross from one cortex to the next shore
You like to change the scenery
Even though it's my river
But when I least expect it
You dive
To the bottom of my river
The deepest of my thoughts
You like to make me think
The water engulfs me entirely
You stay down here for hours
Not needing air, this is just a metaphor after all
I least expect it a lot
But always want another visit from you
So please, come to my river
Cross it as many times as you wish
Some days you just stand on the shore
