My Macy is a Slow runner

By , North Vancouver, Canada
“My Macy is a slow runner” today you said to me
You patted my head and scrunched my hair,
And there you set my heart free

Your Macy? I wanted to ask, to see why that you’d say
But when I noticed what I might reveal
I instantly tucked the thought away

Later on we sit side by side,
my shoulder touching yours
I wish we could’ve stayed like that
I hope that’s what the future has in store
