I lay in a nest
Guarded by my family
Trapped inside a bed of twigs
Barricaded by everyone's expectations
I'm a black bird
Dark and silent in the dead of night
Tears pressing against my feathers
My chirps kept quiet
To frightened to be come out
So they are collected in a jar
With a cap screwed on ever so tight
I'm just a black bird
Waiting to leave the nest
Watching my elders flutter freely
Hoping and praying that I'll be next
