Over The Storm

There it goes again,
The rain.
There’s something funny about it,
That rain.
Something funny about the way it makes me think of you.
This all sounds cliché, I know;
Cliché that the rain is all the tears I’ve cried
Leading right back to you like a river.
That the thunder is our laughter
Because, somehow, you always made me laugh when I hated you.
And when the lightning starts, well,
That’s when you first lit up my world
And it ends because I had only thought I’d lit up yours.
I thought rain was to you what it was to me;
Beautiful, near-perfect love
Our joke, our secret, our perfection even before the rainbow.
But instead you wore your raincoat,
Carried your umbrella to keep out our rainstorm.
You changed you mind until I was swallowed in a puddle of lies,
While the dark clouds hovered just out of my reach
But right over my head, always hurting,
Almost as if they were you.

There it goes again,
This rain.
There was something funny about it,
That rain.
Something funny about the way it made me think of you again,
But when it cleared away,
The sky was finally blue,
And lately, I’ve been starting to see a rainbow.

I can no longer think of funny ways to convey my jealously over your poetic talent, so we'll leave it at: I AM REALLY SUPER JEALOUS AND NOT AT ALL HAPPY ABOUT THE UNEVEN DISTRIBUTION OF TALENT THAT OCCURS IN THE WORLD.

also: beautiful. (:
