Those days seemed much more radiant.
The Technicolor one-pieces
over skin so easily tanned;
toenails like rainbow fish scales,
flashing as bare feet danced through
grass tie-dyed with shades of green and burnt gold,
made slippery by hiccupping sprinklers;
the maize manes of dandelions speckled the lawn
like the baby blue robin eggs
fallen into dapples cast from the trees,
or the freckles that dotted our faces like galaxies.
Sapphire eyes beamed from under my sandy hair,
and saw the world with a saturation that is no longer there.
