I lost my mind.
Sunk in the storm,
carried to sea.
The waves of youth
took it from me.

Thought it was fun
to hold my breath.
Excitement drowned
the fear of loss,
of minds unfound.

Risk gives freedom,
but loss forces
captivity.
Youth's unrealized
vulnerability.

My sanity
has swept to shore.
I fear the tide
may suck me in,
And forever lost my mind my mind will reside.

The author's comments:
I wrote this after a period in my life when I was behaving recklessly and nothing seemed as important as having a good time; then I realized my grades, health and relationships were suffering because of my "good time". Adolescence is a really vulnerable time and I have to remind myself about my goals and boundaries.
