The Sun.
Her light
will shine with the power
of a thousand candles.
To bask in her glory
warms the skin
down to the bones,
casting distorted versions
of the creator
dancing about the Earth.

However, shadows can only
be seen when they are
in the light
of this
magnificent star.
When they are amongst
others
of their kind,
they are drowned-
smothered by those
so close to
them,
so distant from
us.
And yet they are close
enough
to reach out
and touch.
To feel their
coldness, their
darkness.

She deems herself
unworthy
of the sunlight.
Her shadow, now the concept
of invisibility, of
isolation
itself.
Instead, she
plagues
the world of
darkness,
ridding herself of
the only thing
that will always
stick by
her.
The shadow,

doomed to wonder
the depths of
the realm of shadows
due to
her
cursed form,
never knowing
the warmth of the light,
never feeling
the tickle
of a teardrop of sunlight
run down an arm.
Only coldness,
bitterness.

But then,
has any shadow the world has ever known
ever felt anything else than alone?
