My skin
Once pure, untainted
Is now a mess
Fingerprints
Of past lovers
Burning down my arms
Handprints scorch my face
Where bruises have long hidden
Under a mask of content
My shame is
Brought on me
By hands wondering
Feeling what is not theirs
A blade has left
Many tattoos
Spidery lines weaving
A web that’s too strong
For me to escape
Blood that dyes my soul
My skin once whole
Has been opened wide
So I could peer inside
But I could never see deep enough
To be quite satisfied
It’s no longer beautiful
When I gaze in a mirror
When I break glass, I still see
A lost girl in the fragments
My life one day may be beautiful
But my skin never will…
