thread upon thread
&& flickering candlelight
a pen && a notebook
scrawling script all night?
a story untold unfolds
spoken in the voice of the unheard
words coming undone
like the frayed feathers of a bird
shadows play with thrumming edges
across the vermin inhabited walls
feet scatter && slide
shuffling sounds of claws
their squeaking whispers
echo through the floors
creating holes in walls
that would become their doors
there's one hand on her heart
the other clasping a pen
walking along a road in her mind
where she's always been
ink blots on the page
endless words and limited days
the writing goes like clockwork
theres so much left to say
heart beats pound in the quiet
slowing with every word
falling apart but staying together
like the frayed feathers of a bird

The author's comments:
A woman I knew left her life after she passed in a book as a legacy. She had a beautiful gift for the written word.
