We had laid our picnic blanket out
Along the grass, like a treasure map
Or perhaps it was a smothering coat of fabric
Choking the blades that struggled to sprout
We held onto the past,
Which was the only thing we really knew
The air of sweet nostalgia
And strawberry jam spread thickly
On whole-wheat bread
In the heat of August,
Directly after warm rains
The bugs buzz and hum in an electronic melody
That we dance to in the night
Throwing our dreams at the sky
A haphazard canvas of dreams gone wrong
We swim through our memories,
Wading between past scandals
And past opportunities
Oh, how easy it is to look back regretfully,
Saying what could have been
And yet never quite was
For a moment we close our eyes
Tilt back our heads
Drink in the sunlight for one last time
We are drunk on life
Intoxicated by each other's presence
Let's go out with a bang, we say
Toasting ourselves to days gone by
And future days where we will have to consult
Yearbooks to identify each other.

This is really good. Very emotional and it made me sad. I feel the same way, just thinking about how I'm not going to know my friends/classmates anymore. You did a really amazing job. *Of course, my sadness is also helped by the fact that I'm listening to "Back to December" by Taylor Swift.
