Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, now that's true strength.

I am the sun; let me rise
I bring sweet beginnings
To golden words recited
By rough voices
Over green, grassy hills
In a silent, abandoned church
Red-tipped cigarettes
A hand-written letter
"Nothing gold can stay"

I am the sun; let me shine
On a raging, red, crackling fire
Screams soaring through the sky
Shattered glass crunching under footsteps
A long fall from a former safe haven
Heroes brought in the spotlight

I am the sun; let me set
Though none can see me
Through closed eyes
Or blinding lights
And shrieking sirens
I fall below the horizon
The sky growing
Darker
Darker
I am the sun; let me rise

I wrote this poem in English class. We read the book "The Outsiders", and we had to write a poem using personification, from an object's point of view.
