She lives in a story she dares not write.
~C. K. Schetterer

The girls are all dancing, all wearing red,
The boy is laughing and counting each head,
He picks up a small one and spins her around,
She laughs and laughs as she was swung around.
So he pulls out his knife; it glints in the light,
And off comes her head, through the air it takes flight.
No one has glimpsed his horrible crime,
So he picks out a big one and twirls her around.
She giggles and guffaws and twirls round and round.
So he pulls out his knife; it glints in the light,
And off comes her head through the air it takes flight.
No one has glimpsed his horrible crime,
But one lone girl in the back by the wall.
She goes to the man and asks him to dance,
He laughs and says yes and swings her around.
Up in the air he spins her with glee,
Laughing and laughing he’s laughing,
TEE HEE!
She waits till he puts her back down on the ground,
And out comes his knife; it glints in the light,
But off come his head; through the air it takes flight!
She has pulled out her knife to show him the misery of death,
For life is too short to wait for revenge,
So off comes his head in the golden red night.
