Skipping Rocks
I stand in awe, watching
As the light, flat rock jumps across the water
Making vibrations on the undisturbed surface
The tiny ripples barreling across the still surface like bulldozers
I watch as the rock’s speed dies down and it plunges back to the depths
Of the deep blue water and rocky bottom
I stare into the horizon and wonder
What will happen to that rock now?
Will it go down the bottom in peace?
Or get delayed by a fish along the way
I pick up another smooth, flat rock and launch it
Bouncing across the water, it finally lands with a splat
Spewing water every which way
That rock too, sinks back to the depths of the deep blue
I pick up my final rock
Pausing to breath in the cool air I cast it
And stand in awe, watching
As the light, flat rock jumps across the water
