A Simple Prayer

Should I leave this Earth with unspoken words
Let them be heard

Should I leave this Earth with a broken heart
Let it be healed

Should I leave this Earth too young
Let there be a reason

Should I leave this Earth suffering
Let me find peace

Should I leave this Earth without saying goodbye
Let my family know how I feel about them

Should I leave this Earth today
Let my heart be free from regret

Should I leave this Earth alone
Let me be carried by the wings of an angel

Should I leave this Earth with regret
Let them be erased at the golden gates

Should I leave this Earth without ever having loved
Let me find it on the other side

Should I leave this Earth now
Let me go as Frost by climbing a birch tree

The author's comments:
The idea for this poem came from my "Bucket List" which details everything I hope to accomplish. In this poem I imagined myself having little or no time left on this earth, and I wondered what I would ask of God, what remaining wishes I would want fulfilled before I died. These are what I came up with, they are the most poignant ones!
