Invisible Sword

May 18, 2011
I bend at the waist, buckle my knees,
To bow at the base of his throne.
He looks at me, a will to be appeased,
A heart unyielding as stone.
Fear lights the embers in my heart,
That once had hoped for love.
The flame tears my soul apart,
As he meets my eyes with his.
I fall to place my hands
Upon the frozen floor.
Naught can I do to withstand
A man who never knew rapport.
His words are hard, dangerous.
They cut straight through my skin,
Searing and angry, poisonous,
Leaving me in ruin.
Waves of sorrow wash me clean,
Addicted to the pain.
Returning for the time umpteen,
Dragged in by iron chains.
