An Eagle's Conquests

Your piercing cry emboldened gloomy birds;
soon, the devoted flock gifted you a snowy crown.
Your daring swoops and dives caught all the forest's eyes,
as they helplessly watched your greedy talons claim lives.
Yet still you were unsatisfied.
You did not care for perches already claimed.
You persisted; you insisted; you failed.
The eagle's reign is no more.
