Knock, knock, knock...
CRACK!
Cautious.
Nervous.
Afraid.
It coasted out of its shell
With a certain clumsiness
That was adorable, yet terrifying as
A seagull shrieked in the distance
The tiny turtle freezes,
Petite heart pounding under its shell
Cautious.
Nervous.
Afraid.
Taking a chance
It began
Trekking across the danger zone
That is the cold sand
Exposed.

Uncovered.
Trying to go home
To the ocean
The moon glinted off the crystal water
Leading the turtle to the depths
Of Mexico’s Gulf
Closer.
Closer.
The shore became wet
Under the flippers
Of the loggerhead infant
A wave rushed in
And amongst
The shells and guppies,
The turtle was swept
Into the ocean
Finally
Going home
