With Nothing Left to Lose

We watched as the suns rays

r e a c h e d o u t.
Quick as moving bamboo stalks.

Touching soft straw sensually.
Wrapping grass with boiling kisses.

Saw when flame erupted
Licking from the very roots
That we sowed into parched soil
With dirt encrusted fingertips

Scratched and oozing cherry wine.
It swallowed a mile before a

gasp exploded. Two before we

Blinked.
With one gulp, teal
skies, amber sun absorb our
suffering. Its over. Char and soot.
Blackened ground, crispy footsteps.
Destroyed a field of crop and shelter.
Now we’ll need to move.
