It takes two to tango
And yes we did dance
All night long, our feet numb
And then butterflies
Pirouetted across our lips
And tickled our tongues
Late into the night
And early into dawn
When light could be glimpsed
Through sky blue curtains
That were strung up
In your window
And that light lit you up;
Your opaque eyes turned bright
And your livid locks radiant
As color crept into sight
From the dark corners of midnight
To appear on our cheeks
As I studied you at an arm's length
And dove deep down inside
My sorrow-filled heart
To pull out of the tears and hurt
A phrase seldom understood
And often misused
To tell you how I felt
And still might feel now.
'I love you.'
