Audere Est Facere:To Dare is To Do

When you look in the mirror do you see me instead of you?
A spitting image of yourself
Reminding you of the past you try so hard to leave behind
You told me I was your diamond in a rough
But I feel more like a piece of coal
The gift you get from santa to remind you that you were bad
That you made some “questionable” choices, and for that you don’t deserve happiness
……
Was I really that horrible of a gift?

The author's comments:
I was in foster care until the age of 6 and still hold alot of resentment towards my birth mother. Writing this poem helped me release some of my anger aimed at the situation as a whole.
