Beyond the Trees

Solemn grey wisps smeared
across the bleary sky,
masking the luminous sun.
The dark forest waits,
staring out over the
abandoned
landscape.
Withered branches
drape over a worn path
in tangles,
and they sweep
the brittle leaves
into the miserable w i n d.
A trail twists
through the sullen trees
and pauses at a murky pool.
The water, like glass,
reflects stcelfer
the memories of those
who want to
forget.
