Sunset

An aged man upon a beach stares at the setting sun wearily,
For he has risked and lost all, just to see his last, golden sunset.
The ocean waves wrap him in their warm embrace.
Sea-spray gently hits his face.
A gull drifts upon the sweet sea breeze.
He came to see the brilliant sunset, melding together with everything in sight.
One last painting, all for him, and no one else.
One last piece of a vast puzzle he could never solve.
One last part of the true life that had eluded him all his days.
One last thing.
No longer may he see it.

I try to evoke a sense of how short life is in this poem. I want people to rejoice in simple pleasures because who knows when you won't be able to enjoy the simplicity of life? That's what this poem is about.
