Today you are you

There is no one alive

Dr. Seuss

imagine the world in shades of silver
peachy flesh replaced by cold metallic grays
this is the scientist's dream

intelligent and charismatic
researched and informed
obsessed and just slightly crazy

his madman eyes alight
his hands twitching, never slowing
mapping out his fantasies

he speaks of sending robots into space
to do our exploration for us –
disposable scuttling metal creatures

he speaks of conquering the solar system
our piece of the infinite universe
with their mechanical powers

he speaks of printing them by the thousands
simple autonomous beings
that fit on slivers of silicon

he speaks of his creations –
chilly metal structures, withprogrammed personalities
if any

he speaks of making them cheaper, then
more functional, able to perform menial tasks
that apparently we are too good to perform

he speaks of them overtaking our world, our race
time to say good-bye to carbon-based life forms
or so he says.

I really like how you describethe scientist--he's so eccentric! The poem feels like it's straight out of one of those classic horror movies with the mad scientist and his machines. Very well done.
