Shard by Shard

To you I am a mirror,
A reflection of your image.
You looked right into me
Your face began to split
disgust seeped through the cracks.
I can tell you didn’t like what you saw
Because you took a hammer to me,
you smashed me all to pieces.
And now you are taking me apart
Shard by shard.

To you I am a tree
That is towering right over thee.
You didn’t want the sun
So I used my branches to block out the light
And create for you the dark you wanted.
Well you didn’t like that either,
So you took your hatchet to me,
you hacked me down.
And now you are taking me apart
Shard by shard.

To you I am a sweater
You wore me so you looked much better
You sported me so often
You wore me to tatters.
Then you figured you didn’t need me,
So you took your cruel hands to me,
You tore me to shreds
And now you are taking me apart
Shard by shard.

To me you are a monster
You are an ogre
you killed off all my confidence
you will get what you deserve.
You saw the shards of glass
That were my bones
You didn’t need me anymore
You decided to throw me out
So you stooped to pick me up
You closed your heartless hands around my bones
And my odium-sharpened edges
Carved YOU to pieces
As you tried to take me apart
Shard by bloody shard
