When People Change

(You Thought You Knew)

You thought you knew me as I was
You thought you knew me as I've been
You thought you knew me in the past

But now I have changed
For better or for worse
I have changed.
So open your eyes.

Because

I'm not the me that I once was
I'm not the me that I have been
I'm not the me lost in the the past
I'm not the me I used to be.

(I Thought I Knew)

I thought I knew you as you were
I thought I knew you as you've been
I thought I knew you in the past

But now you have changed
Right under my nose
Somehow, you have changed
I must open my eyes.

Because

You're not the friend that you once were
You're not the friend that you have been
You're not the friend I knew before
You're not the friend you used to be.

It was the beginning of my Poetry Unit in Language Arts, and I wrote this with the extra time I had. Another title for this poem would be "How Best Friends Part" or just "How Friends Part" but I guess that would be too much of a giveaway.

Life will always through you curves. Just keep fouling them off. The right pitch will come. And when it does, be prepared to run the bases.
