Concrete Mask

Walking past each other/
our bodies are careful not to brush/
you meet my gaze, yet look through me/
as I do to you/
as though ignoring the past will make it fade/
and then I will fade too.

you walk with an attitude only I have seen through/
and I hold my head my head high even though you've seen through that too/
but every once in a while you slip up/
and I catch you looking my way/
and I know you want to go back/
but then your concrete mask has returned/
blocking everything that could've been.
